Facebook is top social media channel for used car dealers

Facebook outperforms Twitter and LinkedIn as the favourite social media channel for dealers trading used cars, according to research by epyx.
epyx’s survey covered 97 dealers who use its 1link Disposal Network e-commerce platform to buy and sell used cars and vans.
According to the survey 52% of dealers opted for Facebook when asked to name their main social media outlet compared to 29% using LinkedIn and 19% using Twitter.
David Goodyear, commercial director at epyx, said: “Many of the respondents used a combination of all three channels but Facebook was the overwhelming favourite. It’s ability to build long-term relationships with large numbers of buyers and sellers is the key.
“However, perhaps the surprise here is LinkedIn. Many see this primarily as a business contact tool but it is clearly being used for trading by a large number of the dealers that we surveyed.
“Because it is the most advanced e-commerce platform of its type, the user base of 1link Disposal Network tend to be among the dealers making the most effective use of technology such as social media to drive forward their businesses.
“We are starting more and more to work with our users to maximise the positive effects of social media on the platform’s results.”
