A Facebook page declaring support for the Republican candidate on Lewis has drawn an angry response from islanders
Donald Trump has managed to divide opinion dramatically in the US. Now, he has become the cause of a rift in the Outer Hebrides.
The Republican presidential candidate has long trumpeted the fact his mother, the late Mary Anne MacLeod, came from the Isle of Lewis.
Eight years ago, he visited the small village of Tong on the island, where his cousins still live. One of them, Calum Murray, has shown support for the billionaire by “liking” his campaign on Facebook.
However, a Facebook page entitled “Isle of Lewis supports Trump for president” has not gone down well with many of the islanders.
“Donald Trump is a straight talker who lets them have it right between the eyes. A common trait on the Isle of Lewis where his mother came from,” the page states.
